08.10.11

I’m really excited for today!! I made my first canvas (that I like)!!

I used a lot of products, so I’m going to try really hard to link to everything I used.

The flowers were made using grunge paper. Cut with a Tim Holtz die, and covered with book pages. I painted them with the stains (which will be listed/linked below) and added a button to the centers.

First, I covered the white canvas with book pages using PPA matte. I adhered paper flowers and circles with intentions to paint over them, adding texture.

I used Maya Road’s sheer Luxe Stoney Island alphas.

I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang materials to paint the canvas… here’s a list of the products I used and the colors.

Color shots (I mixed the powder with rubbing alcohol):
Tiger Lily Red Orange
California Poppy Gold
Rhododendron Red Rose

Starburst Stains:
Bells of Ireland

Mica Powder:
Stellar Yellow Red

I used Crystal Lacquer to adhere the sheer alphas. I didn’t like that you could barely see them, (don’t ask… sheer, and I expected to SEE them, I don’t know!!) so I added some Gesso to the tops of them and wiped the paint off the letters. Then I started looking at it, and didn’t like it at all, so I pulled the letters up (while the adhesive was still wet!) and LOVED that, so much more!! So I basically used the alphas as a stencil.

I used USAQ’s 101 Craze and Crackle Paste.

And reinkers from Papertrey Ink:
Simply Chartreuse
Raspberry Fizz
Melon Berry
Summer Sunrise

To use the reinkers, I mixed them with a little water and used my brayer to roll it onto the canvas. When painting the canvas I worked from the lower left corner to the upper right corner. With my darkest color in the bottom, and my lightest color towards the top.

I mixed the Starburst Stain and the Chartreuse reinker and splattered it on in certain areas. The green really helped to break it up a little bit.

I typed out the words on the computer, printed them, and inked them up with some Antique Linen Distress Ink. Outlined them, and used some Crystal Lacquer to adhere them to the canvas. Then… I squeezed my WHOLE bottle of Crystal Lacquer onto my canvas… I used my brayer to roll it all around, and cover a majority of it. I really wanted this to have a glossy finish, and I totally got it!! And I love it!!

ScrapTiffany: Vintage

This week over at ScrapTiffany we were challenged to make something ‘vintage’ and I am so NOT vintage! Though… I did try my hand at it, several times. 🙂

I’ve made two projects, first, a set of three cards.

The stamp set I used for the cards is: Stampin’ Up’s Farm Fresh. I’ve linked to an ebay auction because this is a retired stamp set, but I absolutely adore it!

What better paper line to use than October Afternoon’s Farm Fresh?!

Pattern Paper October Afternoon: Root Cellar.

Pattern Paper October Afternoon: Hay Barn.

Pattern Paper October Afternoon: Farm House.

I covered an iphone box using PPA Gloss and…

Patter Paper: Prima Marketing’s Watercolor Rainbow paper top of box, side of box.

Watercolor Rainbow pebbles.

Tattered Angels: Black Cherry Glimmer Mist (on the Prima flower).

Tattered Angels: Clock Stamp.
Bling purchased from a craft store by the yard.

Watercolor collection Glittered Chipboard pieces.

The angel on the box was a christmas ornament. A gift from some very close family friends. On her wings it reads: “if you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent them growing. -Coco Chanel”

See… I’m just not Vintage!!

USAQ Blog Hop!

Thank you so much for stopping by the USAQ blog hop! You should have come here from Jan. If you didn’t, please start at the US Art Quest blog so you don’t miss out on any of the fabulous projects!!

Products used:
PPA Gloss
Mica Watercolor Palette Pastelle and Stargazer
Crystal Effectz
Satin Mache Ring Box with Mirror (on sale right now, TWO for $1.00)
Dried flowers
Old book

This box turned out so much nicer than I had expected. It was my first time covering a jewelry box, but as soon as I touched it, I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like. Have you ever done that before? Touched something and INSTANTLY had something come to mind?

My oldest daughter will be five on Friday and she received a charm bracelet for her birthday two years ago. Her collection is growing, so I’ve made this box with her in mind.

I started out by covering the box with PPA. Then I strategically placed the book pages. I didn’t want them to be perfectly straight, and if you know me… at all, you know how difficult that was, as I’m very much a freak about everything being straight!

Once dry, I painted the jewelry box with the Pastel and Stargazer Mica Watercolor Palette.

After that was dry, I adhered the dried flowers, and painted over them to give them some color. I added some Crystal Effectz to the flowers to make them pop. Then I added the stickers I’ve had FOR-EV-ER that say “dream,” “hope,” and “wish.” Appropriate for her birthday I do believe!

After I achieved the desired color, and I was satisfied with the embellishments, I added several layers of PPA Gloss to give it a really nice sheen!

Now hop on over to Lea to see her amazing project!

Papertrey August Blog Hop Challenge

Papertrey Ink: Leaf Prints and coordinating dies.
Ink: Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate
Tattered Angels: Glimmer Mist in Peach Delight, Candy Apple Red, Cranberry Zing, Wheatfields, and Tattered Leather.
US Art Quest: PPA Gloss, Perfect Pigment paints in Orange and White Satin Pearl and Great Tape.

I used cardboard for the tree. I painted it with the perfect pigments, and then sprayed it with Glimmer Mists until I was satisfied with the color.

I used my Sizzix to cut leaves out of cereal boxes and white cardstock.

I mixed the Glimmer Mists to achieve the desired color. Some of the color combinations are…

Peach Delights with Cranberry Zing
Wheatfiends with Cranberry Zing
Candy Apple Red with Peach Delight

If you subscribe to my blog, I’ll pick a winner on Friday who will receive a set of four mists!

The winner of the Copics from the Lawn Fawn Blog Hop is… Shemaine Smith, if you could email me your address, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! 🙂

Be sure to check out Papertrey Ink’s blog to hop along with the rest of the participants (to be announced at 8pm Eastern time)!

USAQ: Checkbook Cover

This week we were challenged to make something using USAQ’s Pigment Paints and Studio Cloth.

For my project, I used: Magenta, Cobalt Turquoise Hue, Metallic Silver, and White Satin Pearl.

In addition to the studio cloth and perfect pigment paints, I used a 7/16″ eyelet, silver seam binding, PPA Gloss, Crystal Effectz, Star Tinz, bling, and napkins.

This is for sale in my Etsy shoppe. As well as the necklace from a few weeks ago. I’ll be adding more stuff to the shoppe as I go, and I, of course, can customize anything!

Be sure to stop by and check out the rest of the team!

USAQ: Mica Flakes

For the love of mica!! This time flakes.

I used a lot of materials in this project…

US Art Quest: Mica Flakes, Willeez Critters and Creatures Kit, Stargazer water color palette, Crystal Effectz, Mica Tile, and studio cloth.

I used a chipboard star and coated it with PPA glass. Then I added mica flakes onto the star one by one. Then I coated the finished star with PPA gloss. Once dry, I drizzled the PPA onto the star, and poured some Crystal Effectz onto the star to add some sparkle.

For the bottle cap, I cut a flower shape out of a mica tile. I adhered that to the bottle cap using dimensional lacquer. Then, I peeled apart one mica flake into two pieces. I laid them opposite each other in the bottle cap to form a heart, and sealed that with dimensional lacquer.

I’ve read all the emails/comments about the crayon technique… I’m going to work on a video today to show you how SIMPLE this technique really is!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Mica Tiles!

Oh how I love Mica Tiles! They are SO easy to work with, and they come in several shapes and sizes!

I decided to run a tile through the Sizzix, using a Cuttle Bug Embossing folder and here’s the outcome…

I stamped the flower onto white card stock, then I colored the flowers with Copic Markers. Once colored, I cut them out, and used dimensional pop dots to adhere them to the mica. To adhere the mica to the card, I used great tape.

Be sure to check out the other designers blogs- they made some really great projects!!

All that glitters… must be mica!

Tomorrow, I’ll revel the entire project I’ve put together using the ATC cards. But for today, two more pieces and, how I made them.

Using PPA matte, I attached the piece of music paper.
Then, I separated the two layers of the napkin, and ‘tore’ the part that I wanted to focus on. (Can you see the word ‘imagine’ towards the bottom?)
I put down the PPA laid the napkin down, and then applied another coat of PPA.

Once dry, I placed the tiny alphas, and then the fabric tag from Webster’s Pages and applied MORE PPA! 🙂
Once dry, I attached the metal saying from Making Memories.

Materials:

US Art Quest PPA Matte.
US Art Quest napkin collection kit.
US Art Quest art canvas.
Making Memories tiny alpha. “Faith”
Making Memories Metal Saying. “What a joy you bring to my life.”
Websters Pages tag: “If we take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves.”
Music paper.

Check out this gorgeous mess!!

First, I laid down the butterfly screen, then applied 101 heavy using a spoon.

I lifted the screen and while the 101 heavy was still wet, I used my little dipper to color the 101 heavy with mica d’lights.

SO so so easy! Just wait till you’ve seen what I’ve done with it! 🙂

Materials:
US Art Quest: Mica D’Lights
US Art Quest: 101 Heavy
US Art Quest: Little Dippers
Tattered Angels: Butterfly Screen
Black card stock
