I love Summer! What I love most is getting together with friends, having BBQs, hanging out at the camp fire, and just enjoying the great outdoors! I love this gorgeous popsicle printables I found in a google search, but, I don’t particularly care for the saying so I made some of my own popsicle printables!

.Love Never Fails.

I’m an app junkie! I download all these awesome apps when I hear about them, and then totally forget I’ve downloaded it! Oops! Anyways, my kids have this app called Drawing and my girls were having fun drawing together on separate iPads and then surprising one another with what they’ve drawn.

There’s this app. It’s called Paper 53

Paper 53 app tutorial how to jessica griffin digital brushes

It’s a great app, super simple, not a whole lot of options, but it has a calligraphy pen, which I love. And, the app works. It’s smooth, and it delivers amazing results. Every time.

Today my good friend Nancie posted about Paper 53 and how she makes brushes using the app! I was like “What! No way!” Of course I had to try it! In her tutorial she shows you how to do it in Illustrator, but don’t worry, if you don’t have Illustrator, it’s super simple!

(click above to download)

  • First, import your image into Photoshop.
  • Second, use the magic eraser tool to remove the background.
  • Third, go to “edit” and select “define brush preset.”
  • Fourth, name your brush, and look for it in your brushes palette.
  • Fifth, and optional, save your file as a .png and share it with your readers as a free download!

It is seriously that simple! I should apologize in advance. I’m going to be making brushes like a crazy person! But, they’ll all be available here, for free! If you create something with it, PLEASE give credit where credit is due- as I have, crediting Nancie for the amazing tutorial! And, share with me what you create! I’d love to see it!

Because no post is complete with out some fun photos! Here are a few of my dog, and our new hamsters, Belle and Ariel. (Notice I said my dog, but our hamsters?) Hmmm…

AquaMarker video tutorial

Today I have a technique that is new to me, but maybe not so much everyone else. AquaMarkers are a very new product to me. In fact, working with water anything is new to me! I knew I wanted something I could do that is quick and easy, but could achieve a beautiful finish. Coloring on a stamp block is new to me, and the end result is just beautiful! With the new AquaMarkers, the colors are endless! That’s what I love about AquaMarkers, you can mix yellow and blue to make green!

To add the beautiful shimmer, I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s Creme Brulee Cream.

Letraset has generously donated a set of the new AquaMarkers for me to giveaway to one of my blog readers. If you’re interested in winning a set of twenty BRAND NEW AquaMarkers, simply comment below, and head over to Letraset’s blog and comment there as well! Easy peasy!

So happy together!

Hi friends! A few weeks ago I came across this adorable sketch from Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine. I took that layout and created a digital version. I’ve made it available as a free PSD download on my FaceBook page. Making it super easy for you to create your own layout!

And this is what I did with it…

The journaling reads: june 2012 our first trip to the woodland park zoo in seattle wa! in this photo you’re sitting on a giant iguana with a long tongue that parker thought was a slide! we had so much fun!” The font is Promised Freedom, available free at DaFont. The title is: No rain today! I used the font Digs My Hart available free from Kevin and Amanda.

I used digital elements from Echo Park available at JessicaSprague.com in addition to some things I’ve learned in Jessica’s classes, like, how to create a star! (So simple!)

(Click on the image to be taken to the product.)

The cloud and rain are from Aja Abney and Christine Honsinger. Together they’ve formed a new brand called Ya Yeah! The kit with the cloud isn’t yet available, but, hopefully they’ll rerelease it.

The stitching is from Nancie’s Art Journaling class it’s called: Stitch 16.

Letraset’s NEW 2012 Limited Edition Autumn Collection

I can’t help it. I’m in love. Have you SEEN the new 2012 LIMITED EDITION Autumn colors? No? Well, let me show you!

Aren’t they just beautiful! Lots of great things to come from this collection. Not to mention, they coordinate beautifully with several colors in the ProMarker and FlexMarker line.

To color this image I used Wild CranberryMaroon* and Plum Preserve to color the petals. I used Apple Cider and Fresh Meadow* for the leaves and stems. And to add a little shadow, I used Tawny Owl and Grey Squirrel. (Colors marked with an asterisk are not part of the Limited Edition collection.)

This is one of my favorite images to color, Delicate Blossoms by Hero Arts. If you’re just starting out, or wanting to work on your blending, this is a great image to do that with. This image is also great for learning about shading and shadowing.

I’ve got a set of the new 2012 ProMarkers to giveaway on my FaceBook page: Can You Pixel This? All you have to do is “like” my page, and comment on the page telling me you’d like to be entered into the giveaway! Quick, easy, done.

I’ve spent some of my ‘down time’ over the last month, revamping my blog and learning CSS. I’ve changed the fonts, and a bunch of other things… what do you think?

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week, thanks for stopping by! xo

Picking Strawberry video tutorial.

It’s only appropriate to greet you on a Friday with a big, HUGE… TGIF! And let me tell you, I’m so glad it’s Friday! I was hoping to have this post up MUCH earlier today, however my computer didn’t like working so hard, so early in the morning. So here’s to saving, and more often!

Anyways, I had a brilliant idea, and if you follow me on Twitter, then you may have already seen this photo that I shared with Ikea, if not, no worries, it’s below!

I made the long drive to Ikea earlier this week and picked up a few things. I grabbed a Lazy Susan and some tin buckets. Then, I put a hole in the bottom of each bucket and used a screw to attach them to the Lazy Susan. Once attached, I filled them with markers! It’s not the most ideal solution to marker heaven, but for now, it works perfect!

I made a new video for today- in the video I’m using Flourishes Picking Strawberries clear stamp set. I used a combination of Pro and FlexMarkers which are ‘noted’ in the video. (Lots of red and green!)

The technique I used to color this image isn’t new- it’s called tip to tip blending, and is something I learned when I began using my Copics. However, you’ll see in the video how simple tip to tip blending is with Letraset markers.

I hope you’ll give this technique a try, it’s really simple! Just remember to clean your blender off after each use, or you may end up with a color you weren’t expecting!

Now for the winner of the FlexMarker giveaway!

Luz, please email ( jessica@canyoupixelthis.com ) me with your mailing address and your choice of a FlexMarker 12 pack!

We’re off to see the Lorax! Looks like it’ll be great fun for the kids! (And DH has never heard of the Lorax, can you believe that?!)

.a boys 13th birthday card.

My brother celebrated his 13th birthday a few days ago. This is the card I made for him.

The image is from CC Designs (aka: All That Scraps). It’s called Balloon Trevor and is now a digi image.

I used my Spellbinders to create the card.
Grand Scallop Circles
Grand Circles
Labels Fourteen
Standard Circles Small
Pinking Circles Small

I used a stamp from Unity/Bella Blvd called Sunny Happy Skies to stamp the clouds. Although I could have easily freehanded them, Murphy’s Law says I would have messed it all up. No doubt! 🙂

The Citrus Punch 2012 Mini Calendars can be found at Tiffany Doodles as part of the March release.

I colored Trevor with the following colors:

If you need some help to make a shaped card, check out the video I did for this card!

And don’t forget about the FlexMarker giveaway which ends on March 1st!

PDS115 & Letraset (FlexMarker) giveaway!

The challenge this week, at Pixie Dust Studio, is to case an old card. So I went through some of my older PDS cards, and found one that inspired me!

Picked a color combination…

And created this:

Somewhere along the lines, I lost the blue… but, I loved the green and orange together!

I used Pixi Lilly for this card. You can get her as a free digi download from Kathy HERE. She’ll be perfect to use for this weeks challenge!

Instead of using copics, I’ve been using FlexMarkers (and a few ProMarkers as well). So, for this image, I used several different colors, which are photographed below. If you’re not able to read my writing, please feel free to email me! jessica@canyoupixelthis.com

The letters next to each (P/F) just indicate if it was a ProMarker or FlexMarker that I’ve used. I’ve done a rather sloppy review of the markers, which include information about a giveaway. 🙂

Letraset has kindly donated one set of 12 FlexMarkers to one of my blog followers! I’m going to sweeten the deal by offering an additional set of 12 FlexMarkers to one of my TWITTER followers!

I have a video, that will take another 2 hours to upload, but, once it’s live, I’ll edit this post to add in the video.  The video is now live! In the meantime, follow on my blog, and follow on Twitter for your chance to win! Winners will be contacted by March 1st.

Happy Thursday friends!

I’ve added this card to the following challenges:
Phindy’s Place Challenge #93: Bling it up!
Moving Along With The Times: Lots of layers!
Stamp and Create: Valentine’s and Love.
Sarah Hurley Challenge: Die Cuts!
Paperplay Challenges: For a female relative!
Delightful Sketches: Use pattern paper.
Cute Card Thursday: Winged Things.

Next Day Flyers Giveaway!

I’m so excited! As most of you know, I design for Jessica Sprague. She introduced a class a few weeks back called “Digital Art Journaling.” With our recent move, I’ve had to pack away a majority of my supplies, leaving me with the absolute bare minimum. I was reluctant to pack it all up, but, I knew it would allow me to concentrate on the class!

So my friend Leslie over at Next Day Flyers, offered one of my subscribers a set of flyers! Next Day Flyers offers flyer printing, business cards, and all sorts of other cool stuff. My wonderful, 200+ amazing subscribers now have an opportunity to win YOUR very own set of 100 1/4 page flyers! All YOU have to do is leave me a comment (or add your name to the inlinkz) and show me what incredible and amazing kinds of stuff you’d love to have in print! Oh… and “like” or “follow” NDF via Twitter or FaceBook and tell them that I sent you of course!

These are not my work, but I found them on Pinterest and thought you would enjoy them!

These images are available for 8X10 download at eighteen25.

Jessica Sprague teamed up with Nancie Rowe Janitz and vice versa, to put on this bad ass class! I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned. So sad I’ve been digitally designing for so long, and I FINALLY feel like I’ve got the hang of it!

(Nancie has been kind enough to allow me to share these images with you, so you can download them to your computer, and use them. Please give credit where credit is due, I’d love to continue making things that I can share with my followers. Please consider following me on twitter, or sign up for an email subscription so you don’t miss a download or giveaway!)

So here’s what I made!
