AquaMarker video tutorial

Today I have a technique that is new to me, but maybe not so much everyone else. AquaMarkers are a very new product to me. In fact, working with water anything is new to me! I knew I wanted something I could do that is quick and easy, but could achieve a beautiful finish. Coloring on a stamp block is new to me, and the end result is just beautiful! With the new AquaMarkers, the colors are endless! That’s what I love about AquaMarkers, you can mix yellow and blue to make green!

To add the beautiful shimmer, I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s Creme Brulee Cream.

Letraset has generously donated a set of the new AquaMarkers for me to giveaway to one of my blog readers. If you’re interested in winning a set of twenty BRAND NEW AquaMarkers, simply comment below, and head over to Letraset’s blog and comment there as well! Easy peasy!

Art Impressions Harvest Try Fold

Hello friends!! I’ve got a few things for you today. First, today is the FIRST! If you don’t know what that means… it means today is Anything But A Card’s FIRST challenge! Please head over and check it out!

Second, I wanted to share this really awesome card that I made using Art Impressions Harvest Try Folds. Currently this stamp is available in stores only, but should be available online soon.

I didn’t use the stamps as they were originally intended. Instead I stamped all three stamps onto one layer. I did however create a video to show you how to use them properly. Leave it to me to break the rules! 🙂

I took photos as I colored, so you could see the colors I used, and so you could get an idea of how I colored… and what it looked like as I went along. I colored this while camping with my family, or else I would have just taken a video for you! There are several photos, so I’ve uploaded them as a gallery so it doesn’t take forever to load. If you want to look at them individually, simply click on a photo. If you want to view them in order, simply click on the first image, and it will open as a slideshow.

I used Rose Peach, Pumpkin, Mandarin, Sunflower, Pink Lavender, Wild Orchid, Red Violet, Light Fawn, Nutmeg, Auburn, Rosewood, Apple, Chartreuse, Sea Green, and Lipstick Red to color the image. You can purchase Letraset FlexMarkers from Simon Says Stamp, or directly from Letraset (you can find their link on my sidebar). Once it was done, I used a stencil from The Crafters Workshop to add the clouds.

Hope you’ve enjoyed todays card! Happy Labor Day, hope everyone has a great Labor Day!

Free Yourself

Hi friends! Hope you’re all doing well. I wanted to share a layout I created yesterday. I have this scrapbook I purchased eons ago, before I was ever married or had children. (It’s that old!) It’s a spiral bound scrapbook, with black pages, lots of black pages. I wasn’t sure what to do with it, because the size is a little odd at something like 14X8. But, I decided to try something new and scrapbook layouts in it.

You can see the first two pages in the book here, and the third page here. I love scrapbooking. Like my card making, my scrapbook style is clean, simple. I like the focus to be on the photos, and/or the journaling. But I love adding that special little… POP!

Here’s the layout…

And the detail shot with some of the products listed.

Another detail shot with the rest of the products I used.

I upload my photos to Instagram, and printed them using PostalPix.

I airbrushed a cloud onto the photo of myself, using The Crafter’s Workshop mini cloud 6X6 template, my airbrush system and B52. I outlined the cloud with Letraset’s Fine Line Drawing Pen.

The die cut stars are from October Afternoon’s Road Map collection, and have been outlined with a Fine Liner from Letraset and sprayed with White/Silver spray from Lindy’s Stamp Gang (soon to be released).

I adhered the stars with Glue Dots Pop Up Glue Dots, and I used American Crafts foam Thickers for the lettering.

Phew, I think that’s it!

Letraset’s NEW 2012 Limited Edition Autumn Collection

I can’t help it. I’m in love. Have you SEEN the new 2012 LIMITED EDITION Autumn colors? No? Well, let me show you!

Aren’t they just beautiful! Lots of great things to come from this collection. Not to mention, they coordinate beautifully with several colors in the ProMarker and FlexMarker line.

To color this image I used Wild CranberryMaroon* and Plum Preserve to color the petals. I used Apple Cider and Fresh Meadow* for the leaves and stems. And to add a little shadow, I used Tawny Owl and Grey Squirrel. (Colors marked with an asterisk are not part of the Limited Edition collection.)

This is one of my favorite images to color, Delicate Blossoms by Hero Arts. If you’re just starting out, or wanting to work on your blending, this is a great image to do that with. This image is also great for learning about shading and shadowing.

I’ve got a set of the new 2012 ProMarkers to giveaway on my FaceBook page: Can You Pixel This? All you have to do is “like” my page, and comment on the page telling me you’d like to be entered into the giveaway! Quick, easy, done.

I’ve spent some of my ‘down time’ over the last month, revamping my blog and learning CSS. I’ve changed the fonts, and a bunch of other things… what do you think?

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week, thanks for stopping by! xo

Customization with AquaMarkers

Today I’m going to show you how I’ve made embellishments and customized my own pattern paper using Letraset’s AquaMarkers.

Here’s a great video tutorial showing you how to create an easel card, as I have created here. YouTube video here.

Letraset offers a great quick start e-book on working with AquaMarkers. If they’re new to you, I’d suggest having a look. It’s short, sweet and to the point. Gives you all the information you’d need to get started.

In working with AquaMarkers I wanted to be certain the ink I was working with was in fact water resistant. I’m a big fan of Google, so I Googled it first. Everyone said something different. The only way to be certain was to conduct my own test. I started by smearing ink onto watercolor paper. I used VersaFine, Momento and Brilliance- my three most used inks. (Staz-On works with water, but does NOT work with any alcohol based product.) After I smeared the ink, I sprayed the swatches with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Starburst Sprays, they are a water based spray, and doing this prevented me from ruining a marker. You can see the outcome below…

I was really happy to see VersaFine was water resistant. It’s top on my list of go to inks.

Embellishment Tutorial (Flower)

(The ink you see on the stamp is from an AquaMarker. I simply colored the stamp with the marker.)

Now let’s see those BRAND NEW STAMPS
we’ve been talking about!!

I’ve used the Party Penguin’s for my card today. I just adore these cute little guys!

To create the flower, I’ve used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Starburst Spray in Open Arms Amethyst. The material is canvas, I cut same waves in a strip about 12″ long, then I dyed it with the spray.

The colors I’ve used are listed above. I’ve used Letraset Pro and FlexMarkers. I did use Copic’s grey’s because I haven’t established my collection of Letraset markers yet. I love the blue combination- aquamarine and surf blue. I’m going to have to say it’s my favorite!

Hope you’ve enjoyed my card!

And here is the entire Blog Hop Line Up in case there are any glitches along the way!

Inspiration for this card came from the Playdate Cafe’s current color challenge:

Picking Strawberry video tutorial.

It’s only appropriate to greet you on a Friday with a big, HUGE… TGIF! And let me tell you, I’m so glad it’s Friday! I was hoping to have this post up MUCH earlier today, however my computer didn’t like working so hard, so early in the morning. So here’s to saving, and more often!

Anyways, I had a brilliant idea, and if you follow me on Twitter, then you may have already seen this photo that I shared with Ikea, if not, no worries, it’s below!

I made the long drive to Ikea earlier this week and picked up a few things. I grabbed a Lazy Susan and some tin buckets. Then, I put a hole in the bottom of each bucket and used a screw to attach them to the Lazy Susan. Once attached, I filled them with markers! It’s not the most ideal solution to marker heaven, but for now, it works perfect!

I made a new video for today- in the video I’m using Flourishes Picking Strawberries clear stamp set. I used a combination of Pro and FlexMarkers which are ‘noted’ in the video. (Lots of red and green!)

The technique I used to color this image isn’t new- it’s called tip to tip blending, and is something I learned when I began using my Copics. However, you’ll see in the video how simple tip to tip blending is with Letraset markers.

I hope you’ll give this technique a try, it’s really simple! Just remember to clean your blender off after each use, or you may end up with a color you weren’t expecting!

Now for the winner of the FlexMarker giveaway!

Luz, please email ( jessica@canyoupixelthis.com ) me with your mailing address and your choice of a FlexMarker 12 pack!

We’re off to see the Lorax! Looks like it’ll be great fun for the kids! (And DH has never heard of the Lorax, can you believe that?!)

Pixie Dust Studio Challenge 116: Buttons (NEW RELEASE!)

Hello friends and happy Thursday!! Today at Pixie Dust Studio the challenge is to use buttons. Something I certainly don’t use very often!

The felt sun is from Wendy Hammer. It’s from her Sky High Felt Embellishments kit. I used my Lindy’s Stamp Gang starburst stains to add some color and sparkle to the yellow part of the sun. Then I used the cloud die from Papertrey Ink to cut a piece of felt. I colored the felt cloud with Baby Blue Eyes Aqua.

The paper is a combination of scraps I had in my drawer… some Cosmo Cricket, Pink Paislee and Bella Blvd.

The digi stamp is from Pixie Dust Studio and is called Swimming Dolly. She’s adorable! And she has a “brother” to match who is equally adorable!! I used a combination of Flex and Pro Markers from Letraset to color Dolly. I used: primrose, sapphire, canary, lime green, bright green, vermillion, sunflower, lemon, auburn, nutmeg, almond, walnut, blush, linen and cool grey 4. I did a lot of tip to tip blending on this image so the colors wouldn’t be so bright. Although I LOVE bright colors, I wanted more of a watered down look, something that wasn’t so solid. If that makes sense. Have I mentioned I LOVE LOVE LOVE the tip to tip blending method with these markers! I love the results.

Anyways, there’s a new release this week at Pixie Dust Studio. The new collection is called Breeze!

I’ll announce the winner of the Letraset FlexMarkers tomorrow, with a video tutorial!

PDS115 & Letraset (FlexMarker) giveaway!

The challenge this week, at Pixie Dust Studio, is to case an old card. So I went through some of my older PDS cards, and found one that inspired me!

Picked a color combination…

And created this:

Somewhere along the lines, I lost the blue… but, I loved the green and orange together!

I used Pixi Lilly for this card. You can get her as a free digi download from Kathy HERE. She’ll be perfect to use for this weeks challenge!

Instead of using copics, I’ve been using FlexMarkers (and a few ProMarkers as well). So, for this image, I used several different colors, which are photographed below. If you’re not able to read my writing, please feel free to email me! jessica@canyoupixelthis.com

The letters next to each (P/F) just indicate if it was a ProMarker or FlexMarker that I’ve used. I’ve done a rather sloppy review of the markers, which include information about a giveaway. 🙂

Letraset has kindly donated one set of 12 FlexMarkers to one of my blog followers! I’m going to sweeten the deal by offering an additional set of 12 FlexMarkers to one of my TWITTER followers!

I have a video, that will take another 2 hours to upload, but, once it’s live, I’ll edit this post to add in the video.  The video is now live! In the meantime, follow on my blog, and follow on Twitter for your chance to win! Winners will be contacted by March 1st.

Happy Thursday friends!

I’ve added this card to the following challenges:

Moving Along With The Times: Lots of layers!
Stamp and Create: Valentine’s and Love.
